Progress Charitable funds innovative programs to improve the health of the world’s poorest citizens and to assist them in achieving lives of dignity and economic self-sufficiency. In two recent examples, PCF provided support to the Acumen Fund and Innovation: Africa.
Acumen Fund
The Acumen Fund is a venture philanthropic fund that seeks market-oriented solutions to provide those earning less than $4/day with affordable goods and services. Using philanthropic capital that doesn't require immediate returns and that's willing to take risks unacceptable to traditional financiers, Acumen invests in local businesses with the potential to affect large numbers of the world's poor.
PCF'S latest grant to the Acumen Fund supports local efforts to improve the economic security of subsistence farmers in West Africa.
Innovation: Africa
The Israeli nonprofit, Innovation: Africa, brings basic solar, water and agricultural technologies to isolated communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, delivering significant health and economic benefits to rural villages.
PCF’s support for Innovation: Africa provides clean water to 3,700 people in Mchichi Village, Tanzania and Buduta Village, Uganda, and electricity for the Chinoje Health Center in Tanzania.
Buduta Village’s only previous source of drinking water (shown on top of page) was replaced by a PCF funded solar-powered water pump. Clean water is now readily available throughout the village.
