Support for the State of Israel

The Progress Charitable Foundation has long supported efforts to protect Israel as the homeland of the Jewish People and to ensure the health and safety of its citizens. One of PCF’s major contributions to Israel’s welfare, has been its support for Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.

Established in 1948 as Israel's first military hospital, Sheba began in a cluster of abandoned barracks from the time of the British Mandate. Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion named the hospital Tel HaShomer, “Hill of the Guardian,” in honor of the soldiers risking their lives in defense of the newly declared state. Seventy years later, Sheba is Israel’s national hospital, home to most of the country’s National Health Institutes, a world class academic center, a leader in medical innovation and the largest and most comprehensive medical facility in the Middle East. In 2019, Newsweek rated Sheba one of the ten best hospitals in the world.
